Dear Sir, I am at present attempting to sell a bungalow inherited from a deceased relative.
I have received an acceptable offer from a reputable company who are willing to pay solicitor conveyancing fees if carried out by their solicitor
Is this the normal proceedure and are there any pitfalls I should be aware of?
Many Thanks, Mr Morris

Dear Mr Morris - I think they mean a solicitor appointed by them. Law Society rules dictate that you can’t have the same solicitor acting on both sides of the transaction. Two solicitors from the same office is allowed though.
The main reason these “fast cash housebuyers” insist you use their solicitor is not some sort of scam, it is done to make sure that the solicitors involved are capable of moving the transaction on quickly.
Most conveyancing solicitors are rubbish and they are concerned that you’ll choose poorly!
Your appointed conveyancer will have a duty of care towards you even though they are chosen by the “cash sale company”.
I can’t see that there is any problem here. Just make sure that it is two separate individuals dealing with each side of the transaction if only one firm is being used.
Hope that helps?
